Position: Occupational Therapist

Job Summary:
• Responsible for the assessment of the clinical quality of occupational therapy provided with the assigned area and performance of occupational therapy with District patients.
• Responsible for the implementation and evaluation of standards of practice for the discipline of therapy in accordance with state regulation and occupational therapist’s accreditation entities, as well as providing direct clinical care as ordered by physician.
• Provides information and training to patients, and/or family and caretaker as needed, and/or as part of discharge planning.
Essential Skills:
• Possess knowledge of principles and practices, concepts, and methodology of occupational therapist work.
• Possess knowledge of medical terminology, diagnoses, medications, and treatment plans.
• Possess knowledge of pertinent State, Federal and local laws, rules, regulations relating to occupational therapy services required in hospital and home health setting.
• Consistently follows up on OT referrals within 72 hours.
• Develops and implements appropriate treatment plans, including short and long-term goals and rationale for consistent treatment with modification and priorities noted in documentation.
• Provides treatment in an organized and efficient manner.
• Provides consultation to physicians and other staff in the development of the health care plans and appropriate utilization of occupational therapy.
• Effectively demonstrates and trains patient/family or care giver in use of adaptive equipment, and/or techniques involved in patient’s rehabilitation
• Assures patient’s safety during treatment/training sessions.
• Demonstrates and understanding of the nature of client resistance and responds appropriately to assure optimal patient care.
• Relays information to physician, nurse manager and other team regarding changes in patient’s condition, requests for services and problem solving.
• Documents on an ongoing basis treatment rendered, patient performance and involvement, and any changes in status related to treatment plan.
Minimum Qualifications:
• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Possession of a degree in occupational therapy from an accredited educational institute.
• Current California Occupational Therapist license.
• Current BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
• Minimum of three years of clinical experience in a diverse background specific to discipline; prefer one to two years’ experience in a rehabilitation setting.
