Job Summary:
• Requires the ability to effectively alternate between Cook and Food Service Worker duties as assigned. The duties listed below are intended to illustrate the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this role.
• Prepare and serve food in a commercial/hospital setting to patients, residents, staff, and special function meals to District standards.
• Maintains sanitary working conditions and adheres to all food safety and hygiene standards.
• Maintenance and cleaning of equipment, utensils, and supplies as assigned.

Essential Skills:
• Knowledge of methods and equipment used to care for, prepare, and serve food in a commercial setting.
• Ability to prepare, cook and serve a variety of nutritious and attractive meals in large quantities.
• Ability to operate modern kitchen equipment.
• Ability to adhere to standardized recipes, making proper approved substitution when necessary.
• Serves food according to predetermined standards, where standards are set.
• Stores or holds foods according to predetermined standards.
• Ability to maintain sanitary working conditions, eliminating contamination of food, and adhere to safety standards.
• Demonstrates appropriate skills, i.e. understanding of foods and preparation methods. Always demonstrates working knowledge of the following: Weights and measures, recipes, cooking terms, time and motion skills , cooking methods for various types of foods, special diet cooking.
• Ability to maintain required dietary documentation.

Minimum Qualifications:
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• One year of experience in food production in a commercial, institutional, or hospital kitchen highly preferred.
• Food Handlers Certificate, or within 6 months of hire.
