Job Summary:
• Perform a variety of specialized clerical duties related to the pre-admitting and admitting of patients, including those from outpatient departments and direct acute admissions.
• Serve as the telephone operator, managing and relaying incoming, outgoing, and interoffice calls.
• Professionally greet patients and visitors, assess their needs, and direct them to the appropriate area or person.
• Handle patient admitting tasks such as data entry of patient information, verifying information and insurance coverage.
• Manage payment collections, schedule patients for procedures, and complete various projects and tasks as assigned.
• Make announcements over the overhead speaker system as needed.

Essential Skills:
• Understanding of basic medical terminology.
• Proficiency in operating modern office equipment, including computer terminals.
• Ability to type accurately at a rate of 30 words per minute.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, doctors, and hospital staff members, exercising a high degree of tact.
• Ability to follow instructions provided in written, oral, and graphic form.
• Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as instructions, safety rules, and operating manuals.
• Competence in dealing with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to work under pressure with time constraints and maintain files and records.
• Knowledge of office organization, basics of insurance billing, and medical terminology.
• Compliance with infection control and asepsis procedures.
• Professional and positive interaction with the public.
• Proper body mechanics to prevent injury.
• Ability to maintain effective work relationships and provide compassionate care.
• Maintaining confidentiality and preserving patients' rights.

Minimum Qualifications:
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• At least two years of clerical work experience, preferably in an insurance or medical field.
• No specific licensure or certifications required, but experience in a medical setting is preferred.
