Respiratory Therapist - Cardiopulmonary
I. Job Summary:
Provides respiratory therapy which includes assessment, treatment, management, control, diagnostic evaluation and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary systems. Consults with physicians. Provides consultation, instruction and/or technical direction of medical, nursing, and other staff members.
II. Minimum Qualifications:
A. Education
1. High school graduate or G.E.D.
2. Satisfactory completion of an AMA approved program in respiratory therapy.
B. Experience
1. Prefer a minimum of 1 year experience in an acute setting.
C. Licensure / Certifications / Registrations
1. California State Respiratory Care Practitioners License.
2. Registration by NBRC as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Level II, or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) Level I.
3. Current BLS Healthcare Provider certification
4. Current ACLS Healthcare Provider certification
5. Current PALS
D. Essential Skills
1. Possess knowledge of theory, principles, and techniques of respiratory therapy and care.
2. Possess knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and human physiology.
3. Possess knowledge of regulations covering respiratory therapy and how to apply them.
4. Possess knowledge of basic repair and maintenance of departmental equipment.
5. Ability to operate for departmental equipment.
6. Ability to accurately perform echocardiograms, stress tests, holters, and interpret EKG and PFTs.
7. Maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
8. Ability to perform intermediate arithmetical calculations accurately.
9. Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
10. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
11. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized and non-standardized situations.
12. Ability to handle stressful situations in professional manner.
13. Ability to work under pressure with time constraints.
14. Ability to operate modern office equipment.
15. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships contacted in the performance of their duties.
