Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Laboratory
Independently performs clinical laboratory procedures and tests necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of patients, as per attending physician's orders; including the quality control procedures necessary to assure the accuracy of test systems and results prior to releasing such results. Use or operate a variety of routine and specialized clinical laboratory instruments and equipment in the collection, processing, description, and analysis of specimens. Perform preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment.

Employees in this position work form broad policies and on general objectives, referring specific matters to supervisor only when interpretation or clarification of policies is necessary.

Education
1. High school graduate or equivalent, and
2. BS degree in laboratory science.

Experience
1. Three or more years of experience as a clinical laboratory scientist in a hospital setting, preferred.

Licensure / Certifications / Registrations
1. Current valid California state Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.
2. Current BLS Health Care Provider certification.

Essential Skills
1. Knowledge of chemical, bacteriological, serological, hematological and parasitological principles, practices, techniques, equipment and terminology.
2. Knowledge of principles and practices of clinical laboratory work.
3. Knowledge of use and care of laboratory equipment.
4. Knowledge of preparation, mounting and staining of specimens.
5. Ability to set up and operate laboratory equipment and make quick and accurate tests and analyses.
6. Ability to perform standardized laboratory tests skillfully.
7. Ability to keep accurate records.
8. Ability to communicate effectively in oral form.
9. Ability to use common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, of diagram form.
10. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized
situations.
11. Ability to work under pressure with time constraints.
12. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, and other
contacted in the course of performing job requirements.
13. Ability to operate modern office equipment.
