With most of the evacuation orders lifted, I am pleased to announce that all John C. Fremont Hospital services and medical clinics, including the Northside Clinic in Greeley Hill are open and fully operational again.

On Tuesday afternoon, July 18th, when the town of Mariposa was ordered to evacuate, it was determined by the County Emergency Operations in conjunction with CAL FIRE and Incident Management Team 4 that John C. Fremont Hospital was to shelter in place. Resources were committed to defend the Hospital. We closed our out-patient service areas, including Fremont Family Physicians and Fremont Specialty Physicians, laboratory, and imaging, but kept the Emergency Department open.

The entire team at John C. Fremont Hospital want to recognize the huge debt of gratitude we owe to all the emergency personnel who were fighting the Detwiler Fire. We could see and hear the bulldozers working throughout the night creating firebreaks along with the firefighting personnel doing their incredible work. They stopped the flames that were encroaching into the northwest portion of town less than a quarter mile from the hospital. That night there were 22 firefighters and five engines here from Marin County stationed around the hospital. They walked the perimeter all night and were strategically positioned to do battle with the fire if it approached the hospital.

During the three days of shelter in place, we worked with limited staff, many of whom stayed the entire 3-days we were in shelter mode. I must commend those employees. With the town evacuated and the fire approaching, and with many of their personal homes at risk, they continued to provide the highest quality care to our patients and ensured that emergency medical care remained available for our community.

The situation remains unchanged at John C. Fremont hospital (JCFHD). On the recommendation of all the fire teams that have been on campus and in conjunction with the emergency operations center we have made the decision to continue sheltering in place. All patients are safe and receiving excellent care. All outpatient services are closed tomorrow but the Emergency Department remains open for emergencies.

There are a lot of rumors circulating on social media about JCFHD but the hospital is not threatened nor has it been threatened by the fire. Any changes to our circumstances will be posted to the website.
